Microsoft apes Early Access with new ‘Xbox Game Preview’ program

Moments ago at Microsoft's E3 2015 press conference, ID@Xbox chief Chris Charla closed out the company's now-traditional indie game showcase segment by announcing a new "Xbox Game Preview" program that's roughly akin to Steam's Early Access service.

Xbox Game Preview is expected to debut today with Hinterland's The Long Dark and Frontier's Elite: Dangerous, and Charla said Xbox One owners will be able to "buy and play a selection of games while they're still in active development," but unlike Steam Early Access, every title will have a free demo. Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches

"This type of early access gaming is popular on PC, and we're excited to offer it to our gamers," said Charla. "Every game in the program has a free trial, so you can play it and make an educated decision on whether you want to jump in early or see how development progresses."

It also seems that developers who choose to participate will be able to solicit feedback from players previewing their work — DayZ developer Dean Hall also briefly took the stage at Microsoft's event to announce his new game in development, Ion, and promise that "the players, through Xbox One Game Preview and PC, will govern its destiny." The game is currently being created at Hall's studio RocketWerkz with Improbable technology.

Falcon And The Winter Soldier Episode 5 Recap- What We Learned From "Truth" And What's Coming Next

We’ve reached the penultimate episode of Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which means the series finale is just one week away. Still, despite the clock rapidly ticking down, we’ve got plenty of mysteries and unanswered questions left swirling around the show to dig into–so many, in fact, that there’s a real chance we may not get resolutions for all of them in only one episode. Cabal 2 Review

When Cabal 2 was first released in South Korea in 2012, it might have been something a little more original, and it certainly would have looked better to our eyes than it does now. But three years is a lifetime for a massively multiplayer role-playing game, and the time it’s taken to localize this game has not done it any favors.

If you follow the betas and launches of various MMORPGs coming out of South Korea in particular, there’s a feeling here that you’re probably very familiar with. You’ll see bits and pieces of a game that looks more stunning than most MMORPGs you’ve seen, with the additional promise of a variety of intriguing mechanics. You may spend years pining after it, following every scrap of information you can as it slowly makes its way through the pipeli…

Halo Infinite Ranked Play And Matchmaking Will Soon Be Overhauled

343 Industries has, yet again, revealed more changes that’ll be happening in Halo Infinite as part of the Winter Update coming on November 8. In addition to the new features being introduced, changes will be made to matchmaking and improvements to Ranked.

A Halo Waypoint blog post explains that players will soon have the option to choose what region they load into before playing a match. To do so, all they have to do is go into settings, then select Gameplay, then Matchmaking, and lastly, Search Region.

The default will be under “Expanded,” which is the existing mode already, where 343 tries to match you in the same region but still allows games outside your region. Players can also change their setting to “Local,” and that’ll limit you to games…

Star Control- Origins Review – Space Oddity

Star Control II was released in 1992 and remains notable for its bold amalgam of seemingly disparate ideas. It combined space exploration, arcade combat, resource management, trading, questing and chatting with aliens in a way that suggested its creators were still eagerly discovering what a game could be. This reboot, from strategy game developer Stardock, is a mostly faithful adaptation. It delivers an expansive galaxy steeped in mystery, knowing sci-fi winks and modern interface convenience, but as a genre mashup it can at times feel shallow and the overall experience is uneven.

Star Control: Origins begins with the human race donning its crisp and immaculately tailored Star Control uniform and making first contact with alien life. Within moments you find yourself app…

SimCity Review

SimCity is a good game hobbled by its insistence on putting as many obstacles as it can between it and you. You can point to the ridiculous online connection problems that have bogged down the game’s launch as the most obvious examples of this, but they aren’t the only ones. From its online infrastructure to the simulation that powers each city, SimCity has numerous flaws that can turn a few hours of delight into a few hours of seething frustration. Many, or even most, of these flaws can be fixed, but it’s the here and now that’s important–and in the here and now, SimCity is a fun, engaging, and broken game.

Just how broken the always-online SimCity is depends on when you’re playing, what server you choose, and the sheer luck of the draw. Did it …
